How I started designing and building Websites as a Freelancer

About me

Established in Madrid while studying Pharmacy, I have been working on the side as a Freelancer for 6 years and since I moved to Germany I have decided to commit full Freelancing. Web coding peaked my interest while finishing my high school studies and manage to get a few projects done for myself for fun using the old but valid Dreamweaver.

Years past and Word press took over with its functionality and capacity to incorporate all kind of plugins to fit all possible clients’ dreams. Still I self-educated myself in various code language like HTML, CSS, PHP and JS;

Even I like more coding websites myself making them clean and slick, the possibilities behind a dynamic website are crushing in terms on comparison versus an static one (without a CMS). Dynamic websites allows the client to edit some snippets, heading, text or even include new products or blog posts without needing to contact the developer. That is why I moved to WordPress long ago and I have been using it since then.

My workflow

First contact

During the first meeting we set ground basics ideas, requirements and preferences about my client business needs, so I can obtain a clear picture and therefore provide a product they are happy with.

Design

With a clear picture of my client’s needs I can begin structuring the website and write down all the technology&back-end it will need.

If the project is substantial, I will always start in Adobe Xd creating a wireframe. This is done as with vast websites, having images or color interfere the designing process and not always in a good way. Thus, a design in gray, without colors or styling options is the best choice.

Development

Once the design is done and the client approves it, I can sit down and install WordPress with my list of possible plugins and techs in hand.

From on this part is, having the design approved and the plugins in order, a Grab-and-go creating all the pages and sending a preview link to the clients before any of the website goes live.

Tweaks

Before hitting the final “live” button on the website, I have a last meeting with my client in order to tweak those small but final details in order to make it excellent. Once this is done, my last part on the project is providing all it needs for SEO (Search engine optimization),

How shall we design your website?

My instruments

I always have top-notch software ready for my clients. This way I ensure to provide the best quality from the very beginning.
